Russia reports advancements in discussions regarding Ukraine and describes its relationship with the US as ‘complex.’

We are confident that certain advancements can already be recognized,” Peskov states, referring to the moratorium on attacks targeting energy infrastructure.

MOSCOW: Russia has announced that negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine have shown some progress, but characterized its interactions with the United States as challenging and intricate.
“The discussions are quite complicated, as the subject matter is inherently difficult,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov informed reporters.
“Russia is dedicated to resolving this conflict in a way that protects its own interests and remains open to dialogue. We will continue our efforts in this regard.
US President Donald Trump stated on Friday that he aims to reach a peace agreement swiftly, but noted he cannot remain involved in seeking a resolution indefinitely “if one of the two parties makes it very difficult.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking in Paris after discussions with European and Ukrainian leaders, emphasized that the parties have only a few days to demonstrate progress, or Washington would reconsider its involvement.
In response to whether the U.S. might withdraw from seeking a peace settlement in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that such decisions are for Washington to address.
“We already see certain progress,” Peskov noted, referencing a temporary halt on strikes against energy infrastructure, although he pointed out that Ukraine had not fully complied with this moratorium.
“Thus, some advancements have been made, but there are still many challenging discussions ahead,” he added.
When asked if the energy moratorium was still in effect, Peskov replied that it had been in place for a month with no directives from the president altering Russia’s stance.
Dmitry Medvedev, deputy head of Russia’s Security Council and a representative of the hardline faction, voiced his approval of the U.S. statements on the social media platform X. “American officials have indicated that if no progress is made regarding Ukraine, the U.S. will disengage.
That’s a wise move,” Medvedev wrote in English. “The EU should take the same approach. This would enable Russia to resolve the situation more swiftly.
